Hobbies for dummies

Saturday we all went down to the library. It was a bit chilly and Lily loves playing there - they have a lovely learn and play room, plus an outside garden with lots of toys. Right by the door, they always have a table with the new arrivals and this time, they also had a "try a new hobby" one. I had one look at it and thought: why not?

Ever since my hobby became my profession, it feels like I don't really have one. Sometime I leave the camera behind because I don't really want to take it out any more. Which is sad in a way, and also the reason I came up with the Photo Friday on the blog.

So there I was, looking around. The first book I picked up was a belly dancing one. It made me laugh - I've been belly dancing for the best part of the last 10 years, but I can't imagine picking anything new up from a book. I regret having stopped the lessons, but I would pay and not go, so I just quit. Then right next to it, I found it: Garden Makeovers.

See, I have been thinking about it for ages. I live in a new build, one of those with a poky garden covered by a horrible lawn in bad soil and a ginormous shed, that takes almost 1/4 of the space (I nearly cried when my husband said he'd bought it). I know it can look nice, but I will have to put a lot of hard work in it.

I will use my architect-powers (oops, I am not allowed to say I am an Architect in this country) to design something nice and then build it with my own hands. Mostly. B&Q and Wickes will be my best friends.

I can't bring myself to post a photo of it just now because it looks truly horrible, but I will once I'm finished, with anything I learn from the process - I am not exactly a landscape architect, you see, and bricklaying was not part of the curriculum but I am sure I can do it.

So wish me luck on my potential bricklaying venture, something tells me I am going to need it.
